Yoga Vedanta Kutir

Yoga Vedanta Kutir is located in the city of Allahabad (traditionally known as Prayag), at the Triveni Sangam, the actual confluence (“prayag”) of the holy Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati rivers. Yoga Vedanta Kutir is the ashram founded by Guruji Swami Vishnudevananda Saraswati, and is where, for over sixty years, he practiced his austerities, had his realizations and shared his teachings. A samadhi (memorial shrine) has been built on the ashram grounds where his holy remains were buried, radiating blessings on all who visit. Before his passing, Guruji left the ashram in the care of his dear disciple Swami Omananda Saraswati, who now maintains the ashram property and manages its many activities. Swami Omanandaji gives spiritual guidance to a new generation of devotees and disciples, and has taken in children from poor families, offering them traditional yogic training and education, as well as arranging for the fulfillment of the children’s modern schooling requirements. In addition to this, each day, the ashram distributes over sixty hot meals to any who arrive at the ashram gate: the local children, poor laborers and passing pilgrims. This practice is viewed as Narayan Seva (service of God in man). A sister ashram, Shiva Shakti Mandir, has been established on the other side of the Ganga to care for young girls and women under the guidance of Swami Shradananda Saraswati, a nun and senior disciple of Swami Omananda. Donations to support the Narayana Seva program and the children of Yoga Vedanta Kutir and Shiva Shakti Mandir can be made via PayPal to bababhajanananda@gmail.com.

FEED. LOVE. SERVE.

Since last Makar Sankranti (January 14th, 2017) our guru's ashram Yoga-Vedanta Kutir in Allahabad has been serving full plates of hot kitchri (a filling and balanced meal made by cooking rice, mung beans and vegetables together) to the poor, hungry and passing pilgrims daily in memory of our guru the late Swami Vishnudevananda and his guru Yogiraj Handiya Baba. Swami Omananda, the head of the ashram, has vowed to continue this auspicious service for as long as he lives, praying that it will continue non-stop long into the future.

It started with serving 20 people daily. At present they are serving between 50 to 60 daily. While this is a holy and auspicious work, it is putting strain on the ashram's insecure finances, which come only by loving donations.
Feeding poor children, the hungry and pilgrims on the bank of the holy Triveni-Sangam, the King of Holy Places (Tirtharaja) is a great blessings. If anyone would like to share in this blessing by contributing, this would be very much appreciated.

Any amount is helpful. $30 covers the cost for feeding approximately 50 people for one day.

Some devotees in India and in the US have come forward to sponsor the cost for one day per month for a year ($360).

While $30 covers the cost of the free distribution of food for a day, $50 would do this and additionally help feed the the 20 children that live full-time at Yoga-Vedanta Kutir and our sister girls-ashram, Shiva-Shakti Mandir.
